| My husband and I are looking at a trip to Playa Del Carmen Mexico..... looking for some suggestions about this town, stuff to do, places to stay etc. we aren't really interested in the AI thing, would prefer a small hotel, preferably something close to or on the beach. |

I have been to Playa many times. Once you go you will love it and always want to come back. 5th Ave. is awesome...you can find many excursions to do as you walk down 5th as there are many vendors asking you if you want to go to Tulum (highly recommended to go snorkeling in the senotes) or on many organized trips. There are jungle, catamaran, fishing, scuba diving trips. The all are pretty much the same price...you may be able to get them down on some.
The restaurants are plenty with many different food choices. If you want to go cheaper and just have a simple Mexican style fast food go back a little further to 20th or 30th Ave. It is no problem wandering around back a little it is very safe.
as for a place to stay...I have stayed at a few but then I found my favorite. Nice clean, quiet, friendly, English speaking staff, a block from the beach and good rates. It is on 1st between 10th and 12th. Tropical Casablanca...you can check it out on their website at www.tropicalcasablanca.com if you want. The Eclipse a few doors down is okay too.
I hope you find this helpful and have a good stay.

The once sleepy village of Playa del Carmen doubled twice in population in the last few years, mainly due to Europeans who discovered the alabaster-white beaches, gentle surf, coral reefs and slow lifestyle. _________________ Baltimore Airport Bwi limo service |

PLAYA DEL CARMEN (known simply as Playa) once a soporific, very Mexican fishing village, has mushroomed in recent years and now has the dubious distinction of being the world's fastest growing town (by a rate of 26 percent per annum), according to the Guinness Book of Records. It's expensive and overcrowded, not only with holiday-makers but also thousands of day-trippers from Cancún and passing Caribbean cruise ships. As a result the town's main centre of activity, Av 5 (or Quinta), a long, pedestrianized strip one block back from the sea, is often packed to capacity with visitors rapidly emptying their wallets in pavement cafés, souvenir and silver-jewellery outlets and designer clothes shops. Additionally, with the arrival of US fast-food giants McDonalds, Burger King and TFI Friday, Playa's rather chic European atmosphere is giving way to a blander, more homogenized culture. _________________ Mark my words ~ Eat well three times a day at virginia bed and breakfast inn.
