Just wondering how are the beaches in the Dominican Republic, clean? safe? crowded?.....

I plan to be on the north coast for a few weeks in the Sosua area and in the south for 1 week.

Thanks for your help!

I can tell you that the beach in Sosua is very nice and clean. Not overcrowded. There are also many restaurants around. I felt safe at that beach. Also, the beach in Cabarete is nice too but it's very windy.... filled with wind surfers. the color of the water is not as nice as in Sosua and it is not that "clean" either... many plants and debris.

Have fun

Sosua Bay is the best beach in the Dominican Republic. Sosua Abajo, which translates roughly to "Lower Sosua", is located on the West end of Sosua in a valley near a river that dumps into Sosua Bay. It is a less commercial, more rural area of Sosua.

Sosua Bay attracts many water sports enthusiast, including snorkelers and divers because of its sheltered, calm waters, diverse species of fish and intricate reef structures. In the winter, whale watching is also a popular tourist activity in Sosua Bay.

Recently, naturally occurring beach nourishment has created a new beach just north of Sosua Bay, depositing sand where there were previously only sheer rock cliffs. The beach bears both the names Playa Alicia, and Playa Casa Marina because of the hotel in close proximity that bears the same name.
