I recently took my family back to the Philippines to visit my aging parents. My husband hadn't been back for 18 years, and this time noticed many changes to the country.
I come from Sara on the island of Iloilo, and we all found to especially my surprise a lovely spot just 30 minutes drive away. The municipality is called Concepcion, and it has really kept much of its charm that other resorts have lost through commercialization.
There are some beautiful white sand beaches out on the nearby islands, and we had the opportunity to really unwind and meet the local people without feeling "preyed upon" as returning tourists. It was really a relaxing few days that we spent there.
The family running the hotel where we stayed were very accomodating and really made us all feel at home. I said would let others know about this place when we got home. His name was Jun Garilva and his wife Bebe. They run the Hotel JunBee. Our visit really was enjoyed by all, including my parents who are now in their 80s and who are going back there this month for Valentines Day (how romantic!)
